Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers: We’ll field strong side for Arsenal tie
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers vows that he will field a strong line-up for their clash against Arsenal in FA Cup
Brendan Rodgers has promised to pick a strong Liverpool side for their FA Cup fifth-round clash against Arsenal at The Emirates on Sunday.
The Reds don’t have the distraction of European football this season which has allowed Liverpool to cement fourth place in their bid to seal a return to the Champions League.
When I have made too many changes we haven’t been good enough and that’s seen us go out of tournaments earlier than I would want
With Arsenal set to face Bayern Munich in the first leg of their last-16 clash on Wednesday night, Rodgers tipped Arsene Wenger to field a changed line-up to the one that received a 5-1 drubbing at Anfield last weekend.
“We’ve got no midweek game so we can go as strong as we wish to go,” said Rodgers.
“It’s probably different for Arsenal, who have a massive game after ourselves in the Champions League (against Bayern Munich in the last 16 on Wednesday), so they may have to look at it differently. We won’t need to rest anybody.
“We want to do it for the club. Since I’ve been here we have changed the squad around in order to try and help us in the league.
“When I have made too many changes we haven’t been good enough and that’s seen us go out of tournaments earlier than I would want.
“This year we wanted to do well in the cup competitions – hence the reason why we’ve been strong.
“We want to get to Wembley, not for the semi-final, but for the final. If we’re there for the final, then it gives us a chance to win it.”
