Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher: I might retire at the end of the season

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed he may call time on his career at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old’s contract is set to expire next summer and he remains unsure whether or not he will be offered fresh terms.

Carragher has been a Liverpool player since he was a schoolboy and admitted he has no intention of playing for another club.

“There is a chance that I will retire at the end of the season,” Carragher told the Daily Express.

“It is the last season of my contract and the club have not said anything to me yet.

“I am open-minded, but I would not play on if I was killing the team when I played. I would not be hanging on for money or anything.

“And I would not go anywhere else. It is Liverpool or nothing for me.”

The veteran defender has been used sparingly by boss Brendan Rodgers this season with the Northern Irishman favouring the partnership of Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger.

Carragher has made nearly 500 Premier League appearances for Livepool and more than 700 in all competitions. He has also played for England 38 times.
