Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool centre-half Kolo Toure will prove a “very good signing”.

The Ivory Coast international was signed on a free transfer at the end of the season after Manchester City released the defender.

Brendan Rodgers brought in the 32-year-old to fill the void left by Carragher, who retired in May following a decorated 16-year career.

And the former England international reckons Toure will provide vital experience – and a winning mentality – for the Reds.

“[His key attributes are] his experience and his winning mentality,” Carragher told Liverpool’s website.

“He was part of the ‘Invincibles’ at Arsenal and to have been is an achievement in itself.

“He’s been at Man City and now he’s come to Liverpool – and he’ll add something, of course he will.

“He can play centre-back, he can play in a three at the back and at full-back in an emergency.

“It’s a very good signing by the manager of the club.”

Toure has won the Premier League with both Arsenal and Manchester City, while the Ivorian has also lifted the FA Cup on three occasions.
