Lucas Leiva believes Liverpool striker Luis Suarez won’t be affected by a “hot reception” at Goodison Park on Saturday.

The Uruguay international played the role of pantomime villain in this fixture last season as the 26-year-old scored twice and celebrated in front of then-Toffees boss David Moyes.

Suarez returned from a 10-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic in early October, and Reds midfielder Lucas insists the South American is used to being subjected to jeers.

“Luis always get a hot reception from opposition fans and I’m sure Saturday will be no different,” Lucas is quoted as saying by Liverpool Echo.

“The reason for that is he’s such a threat against any team.

“He’s used to getting jeers and it won’t affect him at all. If anything it will just make him play better.”

Lucas played down the chances of Suarez being affected by a 7,000-mile round trip following Uruguay’s World Cup play-offs this week.

“It’s not the first time Luis has arrived back late before a game and I’m sure he’ll be fine,” Lucas added.

“Us South Americans are used to these type of situations. They are always long flights to get back after internationals.

“But we’re well looked after by the staff at Liverpool and they make sure you are recovering even when you’re on your flight.

“I’m not worried about Luis.

“He always recovers very well and I know he’s looking forward to the game.”
