Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva tells his Instagram followers that he isn't far away from making a comeback from injury
Lucas Leiva has taken to his Instagram account to tell Liverpool supporters that the Brazilian is nearing a return from injury.
The 27-year-old midfielder suffered an knee problem after being brought on as a second-half substitute in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa at Anfield in January.
Not long now
Lucas was initially feared to have suffered a long-term setback after previously missing nine months due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury in October 2011.
However, the Brazil international posted a video of him back in training at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground on Friday ahead of a potential return to action in the coming weeks.
Lucas said: “Not long now”
Earlier on Friday, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Lucas had stepped up his rehabilitation from a knee injury but wouldn’t play any part against Swansea on Saturday.
“Lucas Leiva has recovered very well but he’s not in the squad,” Rodgers told his pre-match media conference.
The Reds manager did deliver some good news after revealing that right-back Glen Johnson would be part of Saturday’s match-day squad.
“Glen has been back training and according to him, he’s felt as good as he has done for long time which is great,” Rodgers added.
“He has looked very good in training and he’ll come into the squad.”
