Louis van Gaal will make Man United title contenders, says Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger believes Louis van Gaal will transform Manchester United into Premier League title challengers next season.

The 62-year-old has seen his stock rise over the past month thanks to the Netherlands’s run to the World Cup semi-finals, losing to Argentina on penalties on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils finished in seventh place and a staggering 22 points behind Premier League champions Manchester City last season, sacking David Moyes with four games remaining.

And Arsenal manager Wenger, who signed Alexis Sanchez in a £35m deal from Barcelona on Thursday, reckons Van Gaal will prove a success at the 20-time English champions.

“He is going to be a fantastic manager in the Premier League,” Wenger told beIN Sports.

“I liked how the decisions he made were clear [at the World Cup], how the timing of his decisions were always right and in my opinion it was the right decision every time.

“I am sure that Manchester United will be competitors this year for the championship and that will be more interesting.”
