Aaron Ramsey continued his fine form as he added to Theo Walcott’s opener to give Arsenal a 2-1 win at Marseille in their Champions League group-stage opener.

Elsewhere, Chelsea were stunned by Basel at Stamford Bridge as the Swiss side came from behind to secure a victory which ended Jose Mourinho’s unbeaten record at the ground.

The busy night of European action inevitably prompted an avalanche of activity on Twitter, and here are our favourite updates from the professionals, in chronological order.

Former Chelsea man Jody Morris ‏(@morriskid) is thrilled to see the Blues take the lead through Oscar against Basel: “Get in!! Oscar don’t mind a goal in this comp”

While Lineker ‏(@GaryLineker) keeps the joke running: “Fanni was wide open for much of that first half. Arsene needs to keep his eye on that.”
