Top 26-year-old winger favours Arsenal move because of Wenger – report
Riyad Mahrez would favour a transfer to Arsenal this summer because he wants to work under Arsene Wenger, say reports
Riyad Mahrez would favour a transfer to Arsenal ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool because he’d like to work under Arsene Wenger, according to reports in Algeria.
Algerian outlet Le Buteur is claiming that the 26-year-old Leicester City star would want to link up with the Gunners boss at The Emirates because he is a big fan of the Frenchman.
The same report states that Chelsea and Liverpool have been credited with an interest in signing Mahrez this summer but that the African’s fondness of Wenger could prove decisive in a transfer.
According to the same story, Mahrez is currently relaxing on holiday with his young family in the Maldives as he takes some time away from football to ponder his future.
Mahrez has been linked with a move away from Leicester this summer ever since he publicly announced his desire to quit the Foxes.
Speaking after the end of the season, however, Wenger remained coy when quizzed directly about whether the north London side could be set to make a move for the 2016 PFA player of the year.
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season as they missed out on Champions League qualification.
