Man City 1 Wigan 2: Player ratings as Latics reach FA Cup semi-finals
Man City 1 Wigan 2: Player ratings as the Latics stun the Citizens for the second season running in the FA Cup
Manchester City
Costel Pantilimon Could not have done much for either goal but failed to put his authority on the City back line – something which we regularly see from Joe Hart. 5/10
Micah Richards Struggled to make a massive impact on the match after being given a rare chance but managed to burst down the park well as the game went on to give the hosts more options in a bid to find an equaliser. 5
Martin Demichelis Another catastrophic mistake from the Argentine after poking a leg out to bring down Marc-Antoine Fortune in the box and gift Wigan the lead. 3
Joleon Lescott Read the game well in parts, including a key block before half-time, and was the side’s best player at the back. 6
Gael Clichy Caught sleeping for the visitors second goal which allowed James Perch to ghost behind and finish to give Pellegrini’s men a mountain to climb. 4
Javi Garcia Tried to put his authority on the game straight away with a strong challenge early on but failed to have much of an impact and was overrun in the midfield. 5
Yaya Toure An unusually quiet display from the Ivory Coast international. Replaced in the second half after failing to influence the game in his usual powerful manner. 5
Jesus Navas Another poor performance, with the Spaniard failing to drive into the channels and deliver – notably due to the organisation of Wigan’s defence. 5
Samir Nasri Frustrated early on which saw him pick up a booking for kicking the ball away but offered fans hope with a fine strike to make it 2-1. 6
Sergio Aguero Tried to make things happen but found it difficult on a day to forget for City. 5
Alvaro Negredo Like Aguero, he struggled before being replaced. Movement was not as impressive as usual. 5
Substitutes
Edin Dzeko Should have drew City level from yards out but made several good runs after being introduced. 5
James Milner Very quiet after coming on. 4
David Silva Improved City’s attacking threat with nifty passing around the box. 6
Wigan Athletic
Scott Carson Can be pleased with his performance and didn’t do much wrong. Helpless for the goal. 6
James Perch Energetic performance rounded off by a goal after ghosting into the City box to poke past Pantilimon. 7
Emmerson Boyce (man of the match) Remarkable piece of defending with to somehow deny Edin Dzeko from levelling the scores. 7
Ivan Ramis Seemed comfortable at the back with Boyce and more than played his part. 6
Stephen Crainey Carried out his defensive duties impeccable. Also got forward at times to give Wigan another dimension. 6
Chris McCann Struggled in parts but showed what he is capable of and looked to make things happen. 5
James McArthur Delightful cross for Perch’s goal. Showed his class on the ball which was underlined from his assist. 6
Josh McEachran Got better as the game went on but failed to get a foothold on the match. 5
Callum McManaman Showed his talent and looked lively on the ball even with City players in close proximity. 5
Jordi Gomez Kept his cool to slot home the penalty under pressure. Kept the ball well throughout and did exactly what was needed. 7
Marc-Antoine Fortune Brilliant piece of skill to turn Demichelis before bursting into the penalty area and drawing a foul which led to Wigan gaining the lead. 7
Substitutes
Leon Barnett On for Chris McCann at half-time and held his own on a difficult second-half for the players. 6
James McClean Showed his presence and stamina after coming on. 6
