Man City 2 Fulham 0: Martin Jol rues ‘horrific’ early goal
Man City 2 Fulham 0: Martin Jol admits it was "horrific" to see his side concede a goal within 95 seconds of kick-off at Eastlands
Martin Jol admitted his frustration at watching his Fulham side concede within 95 seconds as Manchester City beat the Cottagers at Eastlands.
David Silva turned home the rebound after Edin Dzeko’s shot was saved in the second minute, before the Spaniard netted a second 20 minutes from time at the Etihad Stadium.
Fulham have now won only one game in their last seven Premier League outings and slipped down to 14th place in the table.
“To concede in the second minute is a horrific scenario,” Jol told BBC Sport. “At 1-0 down it could have been a horrible day.
“After they scored we did better, but the final ball wasn’t great. If you want something here at Man City you need a bit of luck and quality, but we couldn’t find that special moment. That was disappointing.
“David Silva was the best player on the pitch and he was fantastic, a quality player.
“We could have hurt them because they didn’t score their second until the 70th minute and this wasn’t Man City at their best.”
Jol admits his side have been sucked into a relegation battle, with the Londoners just six points above the drop zone.
“We are already sucked into a relegation battle,” Jol continued. “To have gained points here today would have been a bonus, but we couldn’t.
“There are eight of nine of us down there in the relegation battle, and we need four or five wins.”
