Man City 4 Aston Villa 0: Three talking points
Man City 4 Aston Villa 0: Three talking points as the Citizens are emphatic winners
Man City’s new-found resilience
For an hour, Aston Villa made Manchester City and their fans sweat. Their five-man defence was proving very difficult to break down and City must have been wondering if they were going to need three points on the last day. Eventually the goal came, though, and from there it was plain sailing. When nerves could have crept in, the Citizens simply stayed calm and ultimately got the job done. Last season, this fixture could well have proven a banana skin for the Eastlands outfit as Roberto Mancini’s men often struggled to break a team down when under intense pressure. Not this year. Under Manuel Pellegrini, they have experience, determination and the resilience to win games like this. In the end, that could be what gets them the title.
Dzeko – The Underrated Hero
A lot of the talk when it comes to City centres on Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Yaya Toure. But one man who has been almost as important but doesn’t get his share of the praise is Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian has 16 league goals and none more important than the ones he bagged against Everton and again tonight. Falling behind to Everton and struggling to take the lead tonight, he was in the right place at the right time to grab vital goals. His impact should not go without praise, he has scored those big goals and has some good hold up play, too. If the title is wrapped up, Dzeko deserves as much praise as anyone else.
One more to go
The final hurdle is in sight for City in the title race. They seemed out of it on more than occasion, especially after their loss to Liverpool. But the Reds’s mistakes and their own good results have put them right back in it. Many people seem to be talking like the league is already won but the squad will know, the manager wouldn’t let them forget, that there are still 90 minutes of football to be played. The current West Ham United outfit seems to lack the strength of Sam Allardyce sides of the past but that doesn’t mean Sunday will be easy. All eyes will be on The Etihad and the blue side of Manchester expects them to get the result they need.
