Harry Redknapp is backing Manchester City to beat Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League meeting at The Etihad on Saturday evening.

The Citizens will welcome the Champions League runners-up in their second fixture of the new Premier League season.

Manchester City were resounding 5-0 winners against West Ham United in their Premier League opener at the London Stadium last weekend.

Tottenham made a solid start to their title challenge thanks to a 3-1 victory over promoted side Aston Villa courtesy of goals from Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane.

Spurs managed to beat Manchester City over two legs in the Champions League quarter-final last season to end Pep Guardiola’s hopes of leading the Eastlands side to their first European Cup.

However, former Tottenham manager Redknapp doesn’t envisage the Manchester City team dropping any points in the Premier League meeting at The Etihad on Saturday evening.

“On paper, a fixture against Tottenham should present one of the bigger tests for Manchester City’s title defence,” Redknapp told BetVictor.

“It could still turn out that way; Spurs finished their match strongly against Aston Villa as they fought back to claim an opening-weekend win and Harry Kane found the back of the net twice with two great finishes.

“There’s no sign of him starting this season slowly, like he’s been accused of in previous years.

“Can anyone stop this Manchester City side at the moment, though? They look every bit at the same level as the team that secured the treble back in May.

“It’s frightening that they can go away to West Ham for an early kick-off on the opening Saturday and hit five like that, with Sergio Aguero left on the bench too.

“Spurs are capable of hurting City, but I think this fixture might have come too early in the season for them. Guardiola’s men look in the mood.”

Manchester City won the Premier League title last season after the Citizens finished a point ahead of title challengers Liverpool FC.

Guardiola’s side were the only team to inflict defeat upon the Reds, with the result ultimately proving the difference between the two teams.

Tottenham suffered a 2-0 loss to Liverpool FC in the Champions League final in Madrid back in June.
