Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Man City v Liverpool
Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Liverpool's clash with Manchester City on Saturday afternoon
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Manchester City to play out a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Reds head into the game in fine form and fresh from having thrashed Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield in their most recent Premier League outing.
Manchester City have also taken seven points from their opening three games after they scored a late winner against Bournemouth in their most recent outing before the international break.
However, former Liverpool defender Lawrenson is backing the two sides to share the spoils when they meet at The Etihad on Saturday lunchtime.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “What helps Klopp is that Liverpool have not exactly struggled in attack without Coutinho – they have been fantastic going forward.
Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino can both play in that number 10 role too, so they have three players who can do that job – Coutinho just happens to be the best one.
“It seems as though Manchester City are still settling down as a team after their summer signings, but that will happen quicker if Pep Guardiola does not chop and change his side.
“I just get the feeling he is still trying to be a bit too clever with his formations and team selections, despite the fact the Premier League is so unforgiving, whoever you play.”
Liverpool, who will make a return to the Champions League group stage next week, are aiming to build on their fourth-placed finish in the Premier League table last season.
Manchester City, meanwhile, are aiming to improve their form after they ended up in third place in Pep Guardiola’s first season in charge at the club last term.
