Sergio Aguero insists “brilliant” Manchester City had no “individual heroes” in their emphatic 4-1 victory over Manchester United in Sunday’s derby.

The Argentina international scored either side of half-time, whilst Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri also netted, before Wayne Rooney scored a late consolation for the reigning champions at Etihad Stadium.

Aguero, captain Vincent Kompany and Toure received most of the plaudits following City’s swashbuckling performance, but the 25-year-old South American deflected praise onto all his team-mates.

“The most important thing is that the goals gave us the win,” Aguero is quoted as saying by Daily Mail.

“I’m very happy that we won three important points, especially against United.

“All the team were brilliant, the defence as well. We’re all one team. There are no individual heroes.

“We’re all heroes, even the players on the bench. The most important thing is we won and we are happy.”

He continued: “Most of the games, we have created 10 or 20-plus chances so I am not worried.

“Last year with two strikers, we left ourselves exposed a little bit. We have more consistency throughout and play better football. We are able to control the games.”

Aguero admitted the Citizens were surprised by the margin of their derby triumph and praised City for pushing on in the second half after a devastating opening 45 minutes.

He added: “We didn’t expect it but we were really motivated to win, and that led us to the victory.

“So that motivation helped us play without any anxiety.

“The most important thing is to give all you have, the confidence and the attitude that the team had was very good.

“And in the second half, despite winning 2-0, we kept playing like that. We played very well.”
