Gary Neville praised Manchester United’s patient approach following their 4-0 win against Everton on Sunday.

The Red Devils were looking to secure a return to the top of the table after title rivals Manchester City were emphatic 6-0 winners against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Manchester United made the breakthrough in the first half before Everton regrouped and put the Red Devils under some pressure helped by retired England international Wayne Rooney.

The former Manchester United club captain drew a good save from David De Gea before he was replaced in the final 10 minutes.

With the ex-skipper off the pitch, the Red Devils eased to resounding win thanks to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s close-range finish before Romelu Lukaku netted his fifth Premier League goal of the season.

Substitute Anthony Martial came off the bench to win a penalty before the France international dispatched his effort with confidence.

Former Manchester United defender Neville was pleased with the performance of Mourinho’s side despite leaving it late to put the result beyond doubt.

“It wasn’t a good performance, but there’s a bit of a pattern building, in terms of getting in front and being patient and waiting. Then they score goals later on in the game,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“Jose Mourinho will be a little bit concerned about the goals they conceded at Stoke last week and a couple of big chances today. United haven’t played what I’d call the best teams in the league yet.”

Manchester United have already beaten West Ham, Swansea City and Leicester City in the Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils have only dropped points in a 2-2 draw with Stoke City.
