Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to dig deep and edge past Burnley in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.
The Red Devils will be desperate to make amends for their disappointing 2-2 draw with 2015 champions Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in their last Premier League clash before Christmas Day.
Manchester United overturned a 1-0 deficit following Jamie Vardy’s 50th Premier League goal thanks to Juan Mata’s efforts either side of half-time bit the Red Devils couldn’t hold on for three points.
The 20-time English champions are 13 points adrift of current leaders Manchester City to all but end their title challenge with 19 games to go in the Premier League title race in the 2017-18 season.
Burnley lost their second Premier League game at Turf Moor on Saturday evening following Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-0 victory thanks in part to Harry Kane’s 35th goal in 2017 – so far.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to find a way past Burnley at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.
“I think United will find a way through this time, although they will still be sore at the way they dropped points in Saturday’s draw with Leicester,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“It was a debacle at the end of that game by United, and very unlike their manager Jose Mourinho that they did not do something about the fact Chris Smalling was struggling before Harry MaGuire scored the Foxes’ equaliser.”
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table but 13 points behind Manchester City after the Citizens were 2-1 winners against Jose Mourinho’s side at Old Trafford in the derby clash.
