Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives latest Man United injury update on Eric Bailly
Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sheds light on the severity of Eric Bailly's injury
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Eric Bailly is set to miss Manchester United’s remaining Premier League games this season.
The Ivory Coast was handed a rare starting spot for the visit of their top-four rivals Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Bailly secured just his eighth start in the Premier League this season but the African centre-half lasted 71 minutes before he succumbed to injury.
The 25-year-old had to be helped off the pitch after Bailly suffered a suspected knee injury during the Premier League clash.
Solskjaer confirmed that Bailly had sustained a serious injury, adding that the Manchester United defender won’t feature against Huddersfield or Cardiff.
“He will need a scan tomorrow [Monday] but I don’t think it is the worst knee injury you can have,” Solskjaer told his post-match media conference.
“He will be out for the rest of the season, I don’t think we will see him again before next season.
“But he is a warrior, he played well today, he was calm, he was composed and it was just unfortunate that he had to come off.”
Bailly has endured a difficult Manchester United career so far that has been punctuated by a string of serious injuries.
The Ivorian defender has also struggled with a loss of confidence and form over the past three seasons.
Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign the out-of-sorts Manchester United defender in the summer transfer window.
However, any suitors will surely be wary of signing Bailly given his string of injury problems at Manchester United.
The Red Devils played out a 1-1 draw with top-four rivals Chelsea FC on Sunday after Marcos Alonso cancelled out Juan Mata’s opening goal at Old Trafford.
