Roberto Martinez has reassured worried Manchester United fans that Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku is injury-free ahead of their trip to Liverpool on Saturday.

The prolific striker was thought to be doubt for Belgium’s clash against Cyprus on Tuesday night due to an ankle problem that ruled Lukaku out of last weekend’s 4-3 win at Bosnia.

The 24-year-old has scored seven goals in seven Premier League games since his £75m move to Manchester United from their Premier League rivals Everton in the summer transfer window.

Lukaku has also netted three times in two Champions League games to rubbish concerns that the Belgian forward would struggle to thrive at a top Premier League club.

Naturally, Manchester United will be desperate to have their talisman in the Red Devils team for their trip to bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

And Martinez confirmed Lukaku is fit to line up for Belgium against Cyprus in their final World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night, although Manchester United fans will be hoping the Belgium manager gives his star striker the night off.

“The reason that he wasn’t in the squad in the previous game was because he wasn’t 100 per cent,” Martinez told his pre-match media conference on Monday.

“Now he is 100 per cent but we need to take into consideration that he has been with the group for only one [training] session.

“He’s been working on an individual basis, really good work, but we need to keep that in mind.”

Manchester United have won six of their seven Premier League games so far this season. The Red Devils drew 2-2 with Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium in what is the only blemish on their record.
