Graeme Souness has likened Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea to Arsenal legend Pat Jennings.
The Red Devils goalkeeper has earned praise over the past few weeks for some eye-catching performances in the Manchester United goal.
De Gea equalled a Premier League record with 14 saves in Manchester United’s 3-1 win against title rivals Arsenal at The Emirates earlier this month.
The 27-year-old shot stopper was pitted against the Premier League leaders Manchester City at Old Trafford in the derby last weekend.
De Gea made five saves to limit Manchester City to two goals after David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi scored either side of half-time.
The Spain international has been linked with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid over the past few seasons but a big-money move has failed to materialise.
Former Liverpool midfielder Souness hailed De Gea as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
“I’m a fan,” Souness told Sky Sports.
“Some of his saves are unorthodox but they’re not really unorthodox because a goalkeeper’s job is to keep the ball out of the next and he saves it with every part of his body.
“I liken him to the great Pat Jennings. He’s up there with the very best.”
De Gea moved to Manchester United in an £18m deal from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the 2011 summer transfer window.
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
