Garth Crooks has admitted that he might have misjudged Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

The Scotland international has been a regular in the Manchester United team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer so far this season.

The Norwegian head coach has persisted with McTominay despite Manchester United’s well-documented struggles.

The Scottish midfielder justified his inclusion with the opening goal in Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road on Sunday.

McTominay finished with 88 per cent pass completion, four completed dribbles and one successful tackle in the four-goal thriller.

Former Spurs forward Crooks admitted that he may have been wrong to judge McTominay harshly after his performance at the promoted side.

“I’ve watched this lad a lot in recent weeks and couldn’t work out why Solskjaer keeps playing him,” Crooks told BBC Sport.

“He runs about a lot and is certainly not afraid to put his foot in – but a Manchester United player? Against Liverpool he was excellent and after his performance against Norwich he finds himself in my TOTW.

“He’s also bright enough not to get involved in taking penalties for Manchester United. I think I might have misjudged him.”

McTominay has scored two goals and has made one assist in 10 games in the Premier League so far this season to make a decent start to the campaign.

The Red Devils midfielder has also featured twice in the Europa League.

Manchester United are in seventh place in the top-flight table and seven points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea FC in the race to secure Champions League football.

Solskjaer’s side will make the trip to Bournemouth in their next Premier League game at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

Manchester United finished in sixth spot in the Premier League last term.
