Ashley Young rates Man United summer signing’s start at Old Trafford
The Manchester United star has been impressed with Diogo Dalot's start to life at Old Trafford
Ashley Young has praised Diogo Dalot’s brilliant performances in the Manchester United team.
The Red Devils signed the unknown Portuguese defender in a £19m deal from FC Porto in the 2018 summer transfer window.
Dalot made just eight appearances for FC Porto’s senior team before his big-money move to Old Trafford in July.
The 19-year-old picked up an injury upon his arrival at Old Trafford to limit his impact at Manchester United.
However, Dalot made his Manchester United debut in a 3-0 win at Young Boys in the Champions League group stage back in September.
The teenager has made a further four appearances in all competitions since his debut in Switzerland.
For all of Manchester United’s struggles, Dalot has remained unbeaten in his Old Trafford career so far.
Dalot completed 90 minutes in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal followed by a 4-1 win over promoted side Fulham on Saturday.
Speaking ahead of their trip to Valencia in the Champions League, Young highlighted Dalot’s impressive start at Old Trafford.
“As soon as he came to the club, he was injured so he took a little time to get back and get over that injury but it is an easy place to settle into,” Young told Man United’s website.
“The team spirit we’ve got is fantastic. I’ve always said it. I think it’s more the press and journalists who say it’s not right, but it is a fantastic camp, the team bond is brilliant.
“For a young kid to come in and play like he’s been here for years has been fantastic. It’s brilliant for me to watch him. We play with high full-backs and, when you’ve got full-backs who can attack and defend, it’s brilliant. It’s great to see such a young kid get up and down the pitch the way he did.”
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 16 points adrift of leaders Liverpool FC.
The Red Devils are in a battle to finish in the top four given that Manchester United are already eight points adrift of Chelsea FC in fourth spot.
