Gary Neville has admitted that he has been hugely impressed by Ashley Young’s upturn in form under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
The England international has made the right wing-back role his own this season under the Portuguese coach and has been earning plenty of praise for his performances for the Red Devils.
The 32-year-old has been a regular fixture in the first team at Old Trafford this term and has started 13 of Manchester United’s 18 Premier League games so far this season.
Young was once again in impressive form for Mourinho’s men as he helped Manchester United to claim a 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Sunday as they kept themselves to within 11 points of leaders Manchester City in the table.
And former Manchester United defender Neville admits that he has been amazed by Young’s impressive turnaround after conceding that he thought his days at Old Trafford were numbered not so long ago.
Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of Sunday’s game, Neville said: “Going back to Ashley Young, he really has had a resurgence in a number of different positions for Jose Mourinho.
“It’s incredible. Eighteen months ago you were thinking that his time at Manchester United would be finished.
“He’s reliable, hard working, he has a great mentality…”
Young will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to League Cup action on Wednesday night with a trip to Bristol City in the quarter-finals.
The Red Devils will then turn their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their trip to Leicester on Saturday night.
