Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: What’s impressed me about Man United signing
Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been impressed with summer signing Daniel James
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says new Manchester United signing Daniel James has been a “joy to work with” so far.
The Red Devils signed the Wales international in an £18m deal from Championship side Swansea City earlier in the summer transfer window.
James has impressed throughout Manchester United’s pre-season games to offer Solskjaer plenty of encouragement ahead of the new campaign.
The Welsh winger managed to hold his nerve to score the winning penalty in their shootout victory over Italian giants AC Milan in Cardiff on Saturday.
James will be hoping to secure a starting spot in Solskjaer’s team when Manchester United host Europa League winners Chelsea FC in their opening Premier League fixture of the season at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Speaking at his post-match media conference at the Principality Stadium about James’ impact at Manchester United, Solskjaer said:
“Dan is ready to go. He’s had a great pre-season and has fitted straight into the group, both as a player on the pitch and in the team, and as a person and a personality in the group,” Ole said in his post-match press conference.
“He’s been a joy to work with and I didn’t give him the last penalty, I think he wanted it and that’s always a good sign.”
Manchester United will be desperate to improve upon their inconsistent performances in the 2019-20 Premier League season.
The Red Devils finished in sixth spot in the English top-flight table to miss out on a place in the Champions League for the fourth times in six campaigns.
Manchester United will start the new Premier League season with a clash against Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on Sunday after the two clubs played out a 1-1 draw in this fixture last term.
