Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that it didn’t take Daniel James long to impress the Manchester United squad following his summer transfer.

The Wales international was the first arrival of the summer at Old Trafford after Manchester United reached a £17m agreement with Championship side Swansea City in June.

James scored his first Manchester United goal on his competitive debut in a 4-0 victory over Chelsea FC at the Theatre of Dreams last weekend to build on an impressive pre-season campaign.

The Welsh winger will be hoping to secure his first start in the Manchester United team when the Red Devils make the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.

Manchester United manager Solskjaer revealed how James impressed his team-mates with his performance in his first training session at the 20-time English champions.

“You could see [the goal] meant the world to him,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports, as quoted by Metro.

“He’s had a summer of mixed emotions and experiences. You could see the way he celebrated, he’s been wanting that. I know for a fact after talking to him that it meant a lot for him.

“Since Daniel came in, he has proved to everyone that he is the type of player we want. He’s so hard-working. I think he set the standard straight away.

“On his first day, he made a recovery run that was a fifty-yard run. He won the ball, played it out to a teammate, ran forward, had a chance blocked, won it back and within 10 seconds had scored. Everyone was saying, ‘Yeah, that’s the boy we want in our team’.”

Manchester United can move level on points with Arsenal and Liverpool FC at the top of the Premier League table if Solskjaer’s side beat Wolves on Monday night.

The Red Devils had a poor record against Wolves last season after the 20-time English champions drew 1-1 with the 2018 Championship winners at Old Trafford.

Wolves beat Manchester United at their Molineux Stadium in the FA Cup and the Premier League in the second half of the season to prove something of bogey team for the Red Devils.
