Gary Neville sends angry message to Man United players ahead of derby clash
Man United legend Gary Neville was very upset with the Red Devils squad after Sunday's 4-0 loss to Everton
Gary Neville launched a scathing attack on the Manchester United players after their hapless performance in a 4-0 loss at Everton on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United had the chance to restore some of the feel-good factor at Old Trafford following their disappointing Champions League exit last week.
The Red Devils were comfortably beaten 3-0 by La Liga leaders FC Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Camp Nou.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side had the chance to take a giant step towards a top-four finish against an inconsistent Everton team at Goodison Park.
However, goals from Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lucas Digne and Theo Walcott sealed a resounding 4-0 victory over Manchester United.
The Red Devils were thoroughly outplayed and outrun by the home team to raise questions about their performances under Solskjaer in recent weeks.
Arsenal’s 3-2 loss to Crystal Palace left the door slightly ajar as Manchester United remain two points of fourth place with four games to go.
Former Manchester United defender Neville was furious with the Red Devils squad after their hapless performance in one of their heaviest defeat since October 2016.
“I’m simmering to be honest with you and my blood’s about to boil,” Neville told Sky Sports after the game.
“I didn’t buy into that these players were always fantastic when they started to win for Ole in those two, three months.
“If you think about the game we did against Liverpool a few weeks ago where everything was perfect, Ole had got the players playing again, Jose Mourinho was a bump, and basically it was just down to Jose.
“Now we’re seeing what Ole talked about on Friday is that there is a reality check and I think it’s a reality check for all of us.
“What Louis [Saha] alludes to there about players not running back properly, I went to Barcelona on Wednesday night and watched the game and I saw players pretending to run back.
“You know, making it look like they’re running back quickly, doing that little jogging one. Oh it’s rubbish.
“And I think what we’re seeing now is what the players are.”
Manchester United will host defending Premier League champions Manchester City at Old Trafford in their next top-flight fixture on Wednesday night.
