Gary Neville has sent an apology to Manchester United duo Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof after being reminded of a horror performance of his own.

The Sky Sports pundit was critical of Bailly and Lindelof for their performance in Manchester United’s 3-2 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.

The Red Devils spent a combined £60m on Ivory Coast international Bailly and former Benfica centre-half Lindelof to bolster their defence in the last two summer transfer windows.

Manchester United have struggled at the start of the new Premier League campaign after their loss at Brighton was followed up by a 3-0 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

However, Neville backtracked on his criticism of the Manchester United after his fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher reminded the retired defender of one of his rare poor performances.

“I’m 26 years of age, all I can say is I’ve got to say sorry to Bailly and Lindelof for my criticism last week,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“Oh my god, no.

“I don’t know (what I said to the referee), it wasn’t

““But that was the first half of the game, we went in 2-0 up.

“I remember Roy (Keane) saying something to me at half time and then I remember being stood in the tunnel watching the second half and thinking ‘hang on lads, hang on lads’.

“I remember the first goal went in and then the second one went in.

“The worst feeling in the world actually, because you feel you’ve let your team-mates down, you’ve let everyone down. Not good.”

Manchester United finished in second spot in the Premier League table last season to secure their best finish since Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant in the 2018 summer transfer window.

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013.
