Gary Neville has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that Manchester United “won’t win anything with kids”.

The Red Devils slumped to a 2-0 loss to West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon to lose more ground on their top-six rivals.

Manchester United were outperformed by Manuel Pellegrini’s side in east London despite having signed three new players in the summer.

Solskjaer has been giving youngsters such as Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford and Daniel James a chance to shine in the current campaign.

However, the Red Devils are lacking leaders in the team to knit the blend of experience and youth together.

Manchester United have only managed to win two of their opening six Premier League games to heap pressure on Solskjaer.

Sky Sports pundit Neville explained why Manchester United have a lot more rebuilding to do and can’t rely on the club’s younger players to see them through a tough spell.

“I pointed out on Sunday at the £900m that has been spent in the last seven or eight years, and there’s nothing left of it really,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“There are the bones of a squad, some young players from the academy that haven’t cost that money. Potentially David de Gea, who is struggling. There’s Harry Maguire but there’s a lot more rebuilding to do.

“I’ve said many times that Alan Hansen was right, you don’t win anything with kids.

“The Class of ’92 didn’t win that Premier League title. We had Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, Roy Keane, Eric Cantona, Brian McClair and Peter Schmeichel. We had world-class performers and two of the best centre-backs ever.

“Keane was the most inspirational captain and leader, Cantona was world-class, Schmeichel was the best in the world and Dennis Irwin was brilliant. They pulled us through it. If the Class of ’92 had gone into this team, we would have had no chance.”

Manchester United have lost to Crystal Palace and West Ham in the current Premier League season.

The Red Devils have managed to beat Chelsea FC and Leicester City at home, while drawing with Wolves and Southampton.

Solskjaer signed Leicester defender Harry Maguire, Swansea City winger Daniel James and Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term.
