Ryan Giggs admits he has been impressed with Manchester United starlet Scott McTominay.

The promising central midfielder has been in a regular in the Red Devils team over the past couple of weeks.

McTominay has made five states and two substitute appearances since 15 January to become an important squad player for Jose Mourinho.

The 21-year-old was named in the Manchester United starting line-up ahead of Paul Pogba for the trip to Sevilla in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.

McTominay acquitted himself well in what was a defensive performance in Spain to secure a goalless draw ahead of the return leg at Old Trafford on Tuesday 13 March.

The 6ft 4ins midfielder retained his place in the Manchester United side for their 2-1 win against defending Premier League champions Chelsea FC last weekend.

Former Manchester United midfielder Giggs heaped praise on the Lancaster-born starlet for his competent performances in Mourinho’s team.

“He didn’t put a foot wrong midweek, a difficult place to go, Sevilla, and [on Sunday] when he got the job, Hazard, you can see by the way he carries himself, he wouldn’t have got carried away,” Giggs told Sky Sports.

“Just, ‘Right. This is my job. I’ve got to stick to it.’ And credit to him.

“You’ve seen Hazard go off after 70 minutes and job well done.

“He was one of the outstanding performances today.”

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term but the Red Devils are on course to improve their league position this season.

The Red Devils haven’t won the top-flight crown since 2013 and Manchester United are 13 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.
