Harry Maguire says he feels ready to make his Manchester United debut against Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils signed Maguire in an £80m deal from Leicester City on Monday following months of speculation linking the centre-half with a move to the 20-time English champions.

Maguire has become the world’s most-expensive defender after Manchester United paid more money for the Englishman than Liverpool FC spent on Virgil van Dijk in 2018.

The 26-year-old has taken a full part in Leicester’s pre-season training, which is testament to the English defender’s professionalism despite having an eye on a move to Manchester United.

The Red Devils will start the new Premier League season with a home clash against Chelsea FC at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

And Maguire is hoping to make his first Manchester United appearance against Frank Lampard’s side.

“It’s incredible,” Maguire told Man United’s website.

“A really proud moment for myself, to join such a big club, one that I’m really looking forward to it and I can’t wait to get started now.

“My first game of last season was at Old Trafford and it’s a fixture I always look for when I’ve been playing in the Premier League. Old Trafford away, and it’s now my home.

“I tend to get my head down – I’ve worked hard and done every session and I’ve played every game for Leicester, so I feel my fitness is there. That was a big part for me to play because, if I ended up getting the move that I wanted, I would have been fit and in contention to play the first game.

“I feel like I’m ready to go, but obviously it’s the gaffer’s decision.”

Manchester United signed Wales international Daniel James in an £18m deal from Swansea City in June.

The Red Devils spent £50m on Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka last month.

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term to miss out on Champions League football.

The Red Devils have only managed to finish in the top four on two occasions in the past six seasons.
