Robbie Keane has warned Premier League strikers that they must adjust their finishing to get past Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.

The Red Devils star has returned to his best form since former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as the manager at Old Trafford last month.

De Gea had allowed mistakes to creep into his game under Mourinho in the first half of the season to prompt some rare criticism of the Spain international.

However, the 28-year-old had to be at his best to keep Tottenham at bay in Manchester United’s 1-0 win against the Premier League’s third-placed team last weekend.

De Gea made a remarkable 11 saves to ensure Manchester United won their sixth successive Premier League game under the Portuguese manager.

The Manchester United number one produced a world-class stop with his feet to keep out Toby Alderweireld in the second half.

Former Tottenham striker Keane offered some advice for current Premier League strikers on how to find a way past Manchester United’s impregnable goalkeeper.

“You have David De Gea who is probably the best goalkeeper in the world with his feet,” Keane told Sky Sports.

“Maybe a couple of occasions you have to change it and lift the ball a little bit higher.

“I would go into a game playing against someone like him, I’d place it a little bit higher or use a little bit more power.”

The Red Devils were 1-0 winners against Brighton on Saturday afternoon to maintain their excellent form and push for a top-four finish.

Manchester United signed De Gea in a £17m deal from Atletico Madrid in the 2011 summer transfer window to replace Edwin van der Saar.

After a slow start, De Gea has established himself as one of the world’s best goalkeepers but has only managed to win the Premier League title on one occasion.
