The Liverpool FC legend believes Manchester United is a very unhappy place right now
Jamie Redknapp has admitted that he is concerned about Manchester United’s lack of fight under Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils suffered their first Premier League defeat of the 2018-19 season earlier this month following a 3-2 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.
Manchester United scored a late goal to reduce the deficit to one goal but Chris Hughton’s side were comfortable winners to secure successive victories over the Red Devils.
The 20-time English champions are three points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool FC and Chelsea FC to raise questions about their ability to challenge for the title.
Former Liverpool FC star Redknapp believes Manchester United isn’t a positive place to work right now following a difficult start to the Premier League campaign.
“It looks like a really unhappy place, from the manager to the players. There are a lot of good players there, talented players – but they look like they are petrified to get on the ball and play,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“That was evident in the 3-2 defeat to Brighton last time out and in situations like that I feel sorry for Jose. You expect a reaction when United go behind like that but there was no fight there.
“You can always play badly – I had plenty of bad games – but there were not too many pulling their weight for the manager in that game.”
Manchester United signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant in the 2018 summer transfer window.
The Red Devils missed out on a new centre-half and a right winger in the summer to prompt Mourinho to criticise the Manchester United board in the media.
Manchester United lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final last term to miss out on a trophy in Mourinho’s second season.
