Jamie Redknapp has warned Jose Mourinho that the “writing is on the wall” at Manchester United.
The Red Devils have failed to win the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson stood down as manager at the end of the 2012-13 season.
The Scottish legend won the Premier League crown in his final campaign in charge but the Red Devils struggled under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.
Manchester United secured their best finish since the Ferguson era after a second-placed finish at the end of the 2017-18 Premier League season.
The Red Devils failed to significantly strengthen their squad in the summer as Mourinho missed out on a new centre-half and a right winger.
Manchester United lost 3-2 to Brighton and Hove Albion in their second Premier League fixture to lose ground on Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC and Manchester City.
Former Liverpool FC captain Redknapp believes Mourinho is facing an uncertain future at Manchester United.
“There are things which are not right in the Manchester United dressing room. You can see it. Jose Mourinho looks unhappy when this should be a dream job for him,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“I think the writing was on the wall as soon as the board did not give him the funds at the start of the year.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 under Ferguson.
The Red Devils signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke goalkeeper Lee Grant in the summer transfer window to improve Mourinho’s squad.
Manchester United finished in second spot last term but 19 points adrift of runaway champions Manchester City.
