Louis Saha sends Man United advice to Anthony Martial
The Man United legend believes Anthony Martial can fire the Red Devils to silverware
Louis Saha has urged Anthony Martial to remain at Manchester United and fire the Red Devils to silverware.
The France international’s future appeared to be up in the air at the start of the Premier League season following a difficult two-year spell under Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese head coach hasn’t been afraid to criticise the winger in the British media, while Martial has been unable to consistently hold down a starting spot.
However, Martial has put an impressive run of form together over the past six weeks or so, highlighting that the Frenchman still has a role to play at Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old has netted six times in his last seven games in all competitions to help Manchester United close some ground on their top-four rivals Chelsea FC, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
However, Martial continues to be linked with a potential exit at Old Trafford with less than 18 months left to run on his current deal with the 20-time English champions.
Former Manchester United striker Saha is urging Martial to remain at Old Trafford to help fire Mourinho’s side to silverware.
“He should stay because he has got a great platform,” Saha is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“Of course he needs to understand the long-term plan is there for him because it is a personal career – it is not only about the club.
“If you don’t play well you have to remember a club will transfer you and fans will start to boo. But that is not the case of Anthony, he is a loved by the fans. He is loved by the manager I am sure.
“It’s an understanding, making a compromise in some ways, to make sure the player is happy and create a platform to win trophies again.”
Martial moved to Manchester United in a £36m deal from AS Monaco in the 2015 summer transfer window.
The France star scored 17 times in the 2015-16 season under Louis van Gaal to earn rave reviews.
However, Martial has struggled for consistency since Mourinho replaced the Dutchman at Old Trafford.
