Ian Wright: What Anthony Martial needs to improve at Man United
The Arsenal legend identifies one area where Manchester United forward Anthony Martial needs to improve
Ian Wright has challenged Anthony Martial to become less reliant on his left foot if the France forward wants to be a key player at Manchester United.
The France international scored a superb solo goal at Craven Cottage last weekend after Martial beat two players before the Manchester United forward placed a finish into the net.
Martial was forced off at half-time of Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash on Tuesday night.
The 23-year-old signed a new long-term deal with the Old Trafford side earlier this month to end speculation surrounding his future at the 20-time English champions.
The former Lyon forward has rekindled some of his best form since Manchester United interim manager Solskjaer took over the reins from Jose Mourinho in December.
However, Arsenal legend Wright believes Martial needs to improve his ability to dribble on his left foot to make the Manchester United forward more versatile.
“We know he is capable of taking people on. We know he wants to get on his right foot. For someone of his age and talent, you want to see more end product,” Wright told BBC Sport.
“It is a little bit of nitpicking but opponents force him onto his left foot because they know he wants to come inside. He has to learn a bit more.
“These are the little things as time goes by, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will sort out with him. He is magnificent. He will be a major asset for them in the future.”
Martial moved to Manchester United in a £36m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the 2015 summer transfer window under Louis van Gaal.
The Red Devils are in fourth place in the Premier League table after a 3-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage last weekend.
Manchester United will take on Chelsea FC in the FA Cup fifth round next Monday.
