Jamie Redknapp has warned Jose Mourinho that he still has a lot more work to do at Manchester United.
The Red Devils have secured a second place finish in the Portuguese head coach’s second season in charge.
Manchester United have hoisted themselves up four places after the Red Devils ended up in sixth spot last term.
The 20-time English champions are in the FA Cup final following a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the last four at Wembley.
Manchester United can win their third trophy in two seasons under Mourinho following the Portuguese coach’s appointment in May 2016.
However, the Red Devils were disappointing upon their return to the Champions League and lost 2-1 to Spanish side Sevilla in the last 16.
Asked to delivers his verdict on Manchester United’s second season under Mourinho, Redknapp told Sky Sports:
“It’s quite hard to say [if Man United have made progress] really.
“Domestically they’ve been very good. They’re in the FA Cup final and are above a Tottenham and Liverpool side who have been playing wonderful football.
“I still think there’s a lot to do here – a lot more improvement. The problem is that Man City are just far better than anyone else at the moment, but there are a lot of positives here.”
Manchester United signed Alexis Sanchez in the January transfer window but the big-name signing has struggled to live up to his reputation since his switch from their bitter rivals Arsenal.
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge of Manchester United.
Manchester United are 16 points behind Premier League champions Manchester City.
