The Arsenal legend warns Jose Mourinho about picking battles with Man United duo Paul Pogba and Ed Woodward
Jose Mourinho will lose the power battle with Paul Pogba and Ed Woodward at Manchester United, Ian Wright has claimed.
The Red Devils star has been linked with a move to La Liga champions FC Barcelona in the 2018 summer transfer window.
Pogba has often been criticised by Mourinho during his second Premier League season at the 20-time English champions.
The Manchester United star has seen his stock increase after Pogba scored in France’s 4-2 win against Croatia in the World Cup final.
Mourinho was also unhappy with the lack of transfer activity at Old Trafford in the 2018 summer transfer window.
The Red Devils failed to strengthen at centre-half and on the right wing despite being linked with a host of different potential signings.
Former Arsenal striker Wright questioned whether Wright is wise to pick battles with Pogba and Woodward at Old Trafford.
“I think the players, everybody loves him [Pogba], the fans love him,” Wright said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Obviously Ed Woodward loves him, because he’s not only a magnificent player but on the commercial side he’s a massive, massive asset to Manchester United.
“I think it’s a fight Mourinho is having with Pogba and Ed Woodward that I think eventually he will lose.
“Those two guys are much more powerful than Jose Mourinho.
“When he says that, the reason why he says that, is because he has been empowered.
“He obviously knows he can say something like that, which is a veiled dig at his manager saying he would like to say things obviously about his manager, that if he said, he’ll get fined.
“It’s simple.”
Manchester United signed Brazil international Fred in a £52m deal from Ukrainian Premier League champions Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Red Devils spent £17m on FC Porto teenager Diogo Dalot to add more depth to their options at full-back.
Manchester United’s third and final summer addition was Stoke City shot stopper Lee Grant following the Potters’ relegation.
