Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he has been impressed with Fred’s improved performances after Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Norwich City on Sunday evening.

The Brazil international was named in the Manchester United starting XI for the second successive Premier League fixture at Carrow Road.

Fred started alongside Scott McTominay in a defensive-midfield role to offer protection to the Manchester United back four.

The 26-year-old played his part in their comfortable 3-1 win as goals from McTominay, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial sealed victory at Norwich.

Fred completed 86 per cent of his attempted passes, made seven tackles and completed one dribble in a encouraging performance.

Speaking at his post-match media conference about Manchester United’s midfield, Solskjaer reserved special praise for Fred:

“Fred was excellent, with Scotty. The two of them in the last two games we’ve played, against Liverpool and in this one. I’m delighted for Fred.

“He’s had a tough time but he’s improving and improving. He’ll be important for us as we’ve got some injuries.”

Fred has struggled to make his mark at Manchester United since his £50m move to the 20-time English champions from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018.

The Brazilian playmaker was a key player for the Ukrainian side but has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Fred has scored one goal in 34 games in all competitions over the past season and a half since his move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are in seventh place in the Premier League table and seven points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea FC.

The Red Devils will make the trip to Bournemouth next Saturday.
