Rio Ferdinand explains what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs at Man United
Man United legend Rio Ferdinand wants to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer given more time at Old Trafford
Rio Ferdinand says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs another transfer window at Manchester United to get more out of the Red Devils squad.
The Norwegian head coach is coming under pressure at Manchester United following their worst start to a league campaign in 30 years.
Manchester United slumped to a 1-0 loss to Newcastle United last time out following Matty Longstaff’s second-half winner at St James’ Park.
The Red Devils have already lost to Crystal Palace, West Ham and Newcastle this season, while they’ve won just two of their opening eight games.
To make matters worse, Manchester United have only been able to score five goals in their last seven outings to heap pressure on their attack.
Manchester United sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan in September before Alexis Sanchez completed a season-long loan move to the Serie A side.
Solskjaer has been left lightweight up front as the Red Devils boss relies on Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes that Solskjaer deserves another transfer window to tackle some key areas of his squad.
“I don’t think this is the time for knee-jerk reactions,” Ferdinand told talkSPORT as quoted by Metro.
“When you’re giving someone millions of pounds to spend money on to affect the squad, it doesn’t seem right to change that right away.
“It’s just throwing another regime out of the window and starting again and that’s happened far too often in recent years at United because of results and what not.
“There’s been a change in the recruitment, where they’ve brought young, British players into the club, which is a shift from previous years.
“Time is not something that is afforded to many people in the game, but Ole probably needs another window to get more people in, shuffle the pack and get more out.
“It’s only then you can really start to judge him in my opinion.”
Manchester United will welcome bitter rivals Liverpool FC to Old Trafford in their next Premier League game on Sunday.
The Red Devils are 15 points adrift of Jurgen Klopp’s side after eight games.
