Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted he was pleased with Manchester United’s spirit after they came from 2-0 down to rescue a 2-2 draw with Burnley on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils were looking to record their seventh successive Premier League victory under the Norwegian manager after his appointment in December.

Manchester United looked to be in fine form after an impressive 3-1 victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round at the Emirates Stadium last week.

However, Burnley surged into a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood.

The 20-time English champions looked to be heading for their first Premier League defeat under Solskjaer when Wood scored with nine minutes to play.

However, Paul Pogba halved the deficit from the penalty spot, before Sweden international Victor Lindelof levelled in added time.

Manchester United remain in sixth spot but have lost ground on Arsenal after the Gunners were 2-1 winners against Cardiff City.

Speaking at his post-match media conference, Solskjaer was eager to talk up Manchester United’s team spirit after their comeback.

“The passes didn’t have enough tempo on them. But I thought at times, in the first half, Juan [Mata] found some great positions,” Solskjaer said.

“Of course, we didn’t create as many clear-cut chances but we had 75 per cent of the possession so we just needed a little bit more tempo.

“I thought we could have got the third as well. You never give up. That’s just the DNA here. Disappointed that we couldn’t get three points, but fantastically happy with the reaction after we went 2-0 down.”

Manchester United will make the trip to Leicester City in their next Premier League fixture at King Power Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Red Devils are looking to finish in the top four in successive seasons for the first time in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
