The Red Devils star has struggled to replicate his impressive Juventus form since his return to Manchester United in a club record deal in 2016.
Pogba won the Europa League and the League Cup in his debut campaign at Old Trafford but the France star has struggled to hit the top gear.
The 25-year-old struggled to maintain his consistency under Jose Mourinho, although the Red Devils boss hasn’t found Pogba’s best position.
Pogba shone on the world stage after the versatile midfielder scored in France’s 4-2 win against Croatia in the World Cup final.
Manchester United have been contending with interest from La Liga side FC Barcelona and Real Madrid over the past few weeks.
Mourinho and Pogba are reported to have a fractiious relationship to raise questions about the versatile midfielder’s future.
Former Arsenal star Merson has urged Manchester United to give Pogba time to shine at Old Trafford after a slow start.
“I think he just has to prove it on the pitch [for United]. I’ve always said he’s a great talent,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“He was thrown in, £90m, that’s a lot of pressure, playing for who are, in my opinion, the biggest club in the world. I just think he needs time.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge.
The Red Devils finished in second spot in the Premier League table last term but ended up 19 points adrift of Manchester City.
