Gary Neville has admitted that he was angry Paul Pogba took over penalty duties from Marcus Rashford in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at Wolves on Monday night.

The Red Devils missed out on the chance to hoist themselves above Liverpool FC and Arsenal into top spot in the Premier League following their stalemate at Molineux Stadium.

Anthony Martial broke the deadlock in the 27th minute before Wolves playmaker Ruben Neves levelled the Monday night clash with a superb goal in the second half.

Pogba won a penalty in the 68th minute and the France international opted to assume responsibility despite Rashford netting from the spot in a 4-0 victory over Chelsea FC a week earlier.

The former Juventus midfielder missed his spot-kick effort as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were forced to settle for a point at Wolves.

Former Manchester United defender Neville wasn’t impressed by Pogba’s decision to deprive Rashford of a goal from the penalty spot in the Premier League encounter.

“It settles the original anger I had around Pogba taking the penalty off Rashford,” Neville told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports.

“Because that’s what I thought, because that’s an act of treachery to me, taking a penalty off someone.

“I don’t like it. I can understand two penalty takers up on the wall.

“One is the designated penalty taker and one if the other is substituted. I think the problem is Pogba has missed four in the last 12 months, he will always be confident. I think it should be the guy who scored last week.”

Manchester United have scored five goals in their opening two Premier League games but Solskjaer’s men have only collected four points.

The Red Devils finished in sixth spot in the Premier League last term to miss out on Champions League football for the second time in three seasons.
