Paul Scholes opens up about Man United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
The Man United legend says it is too early to say whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should become the next permanent manager
Paul Scholes believes it is too early to say Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be given the Manchester United job on a permanent basis.
The former Norwegian striker was a surprise appointment to replace Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford until the end of the 2018-19 Premier League season.
Solskjaer has taken a break from his managerial role at Norwegian club Molde to take over the reins of Manchester United on an interim basis last month.
The 45-year-old has made a perfect start to his Old Trafford reign following eight successive victories in all competitions.
Manchester United have recorded six Premier League victories under Solskjear to move to within three points of fourth-placed Chelsea FC.
Only Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola have managed to win their opening six Premier League games in charge of an English club.
However, Scholes is adamant it is too soon to say whether Solskjaer should become the next permanent manager.
“I think it’s too early to say that [Solskjaer deserves the permanent role],” Scholes told talkSPORT.
“He’s done great, winning seven from seven, you can’t complain, the football has been fantastic to watch.
“I think we’ll get to the end of the season and reassess where we’re at. But he can’t be doing himself any harm at the minute.”
Manchester United’s biggest win under Solskjaer so far came in a 1-0 victory over third-placed Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.
Solskjaer’s former team-mate Scholes is impressed with the Norwegian’s impact at the 20-time English champions.
“It’s been brilliant,” Scholes added. “To be honest with you, I was a little bit surprised when he got appointed, but you see what a good decision it’s been.
“He’s put smiles on faces, he gives players a little bit of love.
“He can be nasty when he needs to be but seven wins out of seven, the feel-good factor is back at the club, fans actually want to go to watch the games.
“They’re playing an attacking style of football and long may it continue.”
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table but a mere three points adrift of Chelsea FC, who occupy fourth spot with 14 games left to play in the domestic season.
