Manchester United are still a work in progress, Paul Scholes has admitted.

The Red Devils were 3-0 winners against Swiss side Young Boys on Wednesday night to make a positive start to their Champions League campaign.

Goals from Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial ensured Manchester United picked up three points ahead of upcoming games against Valencia and Juventus.

Manchester United have won their last three games in all competitions following successive losses to Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils are in eighth place and six points adrift of Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC at the top of the Premier League table.

The 20-time English champions finished in second spot in the Premier League table last term but ended up 19 points adrift of champions Manchester City.

Jose Mourinho’s side failed to win silverware last term after Manchester United won the Europa League and the League Cup in the 2016-17 campaign.

Former Manchester United star Scholes believes the Red Devils are far from the finished product.

“It feels like they’re a little bit short,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“I don’t think anybody sat here would expect them to go on and win the Champions League or Premier League at the minute.

“It is work in progress as you say, I think it has been for three or four years.”

Manchester United signed Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge.
