Gary Pallister has urged Marcus Rashford to learn from his frustrating spell on the bench in order to extend his Manchester United career.

The England international has found his first-team opportunities limited this season after the summer addition for Romelu Lukaku.

Rashford has fallen further down the pecking order following Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester United in a swap deal from their bitter rivals Arsenal in January.

The Three Lions forward has been used as a substitute in six of his last eight appearances for the 20-time English champions.

Rashford has started 13 games and has made 13 appearances from the bench in the Premier League in the current campaign.

Questions have been asked of Rashford’s long-term future at Manchester United given the presence of Lukaku and Sanchez in Jose Mourinho’s squad.

Former Manchester United defender Pallister offered some advice to Rashford about reviving his hopes at Old Trafford.

“I think players always feel pressure when they lose game-time, but it should also act as an incentive to play better and fight for their place,” Rashford told Sportingbet.

“Sanchez is adaptable, like Marcus and Martial, and they can all mix and match. There’s always competition for places as Manchester United and it’s down to the players in question to fight for that place.”

“Rashford and Martial have both got quality, but have also had some problems. Marcus has had a dip in form, but he’s young and he has to learn from this. He needs to focus on his training and impressing Jose. They both need to be more consistent.”

Manchester United were 3-2 winners against Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night following Nemanja Matic’s last-gasp winner.

The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge at Old Trafford.

Manchester United won the Europa League and the League Cup last term.
