Rio Ferdinand believes Sir Alex Ferguson would have already got rid of Paul Pogba if the Manchester United record signing was a disruptive figure.

The Red Devils were plunged into a deeper crisis on Saturday afternoon following a 3-1 loss to West Ham United at the London Stadium at the weekend.

Paul Pogba was critical of Manchester United’s tactics after a 1-1 draw with promoted side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League last month.

Jose Mourinho made the decision to strip the World Cup winner of the captaincy following his comments in the British media.

However, Manchester United lost 8-7 on penalties to Championship side Derby County in the Carabao Cup third round last month.

The Red Devils have lost to Brighton, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham in the Premier League this term to fall nine points behind leaders Manchester City and Liverpool FC.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand explained how Ferguson would have handled club record signing Pogba.

“The stability of the club is key,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“For any football club, you need stability from top to bottom. Here there seems to be mini-wars going on in the changing room, and from above.

“There are mini wars within the camp. That has to be ironed out. There has to be someone in that club who comes in and says ‘get yourselves together and let’s sort this out’.

“Back in the day, Sir Alex Ferguson would have ironed it out. If a player stepped out of line in his eyes, they were gone.”

Manchester United are in tenth place in the Premier League table after seven games in the current campaign.

The Red Devils signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant in the summer.
