Matt Le Tissier has accused Paul Pogba of caring about himself rather than Manchester United.

The France international has endured a mixed start to his fourth Premier League season back at Old Trafford following a summer of transfer speculation surrounding the midfielder.

Pogba made two assists in Manchester United’s 4-0 victory over Chelsea FC in their opening Premier League game before the French midfielder missed a penalty in a 1-1 draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The World Cup winner opted to assume spot-kick duties ahead of Marcus Rashford, despite the England international scoring a penalty a week earlier at Old Trafford.

Pogba’s decision was heavily criticised in the media after Manchester United dropped two points at Wolves.

The Red Devils have remained winless since that trip to Molineux following a return of two points in their last three games.

Sky Sports pundit Le Tissier has not been impressed by Pogba’s arrogant approach.

“Paul Pogba’s penalty record is far worse than that of Marcus Rashford,” Le Tissier told the Daily Mirror.

“I was never overly keen on Pogba’s run-up because it used to take so long, it became a bit of theatre and he wasn’t taking it seriously.

“It was all about trying to promote himself as being the big showman and the big ‘Here I am’ without concentrating on the job in hand.

“The way Rashford takes penalties is actually far better and if I was the manager he would be the designated penalty-taker.”

Le Tissier went on to criticise Solskjaer for his lack of leadership with regards to the penalty incidents that have happened in the Premier League season so far.

“It does cause confusion if you have two nominated penalty-takers and you just go, ‘Well, let’s see who fancies it on the day’,” Le Tissier added.

“That’s not professional, it’s amateurish, schoolboy stuff and that comes down to the manager.

“In that situation, the manager needs to be stronger and just go, ‘Right, you’re the best at penalties, you’re my penalty-taker, if you’re not on the pitch then he can take them, but up until that point, you take them’.”

Manchester United signed Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Swansea City winger Daniel James and Leicester City centre-half Harry Maguire in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table last term.
