Steve McManaman predicts where Man United will finish in Premier League
The Liverpool FC legend believes Manchester United will miss out on a Champions League spot
Steve McManaman has ruled out Manchester United finishing in the Premier League’s top four this season.
The Red Devils finished in second place in the Premier League table last season which was their best return since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
While Manchester United’s campaign was a success on paper, Jose Mourinho and his players were criticised for an uninspiring campaign after scoring less goals than Manchester City and Liverpool FC.
The 20-time English champions haven’t won the Premier League title in the last five seasons and Mourinho was appointed with the remit of restoring Manchester United to the pinnacle of English football.
The Red Devils finished the 2017-18 season without silverware following a 1-0 loss to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final after Eden Hazard netted the winner from the penalty spot.
Manchester United signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant in the summer transfer window.
Former Liverpool FC captain McManaman has ruled out Manchester United finishing in the Premier League table last term.
“Of course not. I hope they really struggle,” McManaman told ESPN FC.
“I never pick them [to finish] in the top four.”
Manchester United won the Europa League and the League Cup in Mourinho’s first season in charge of the Old Trafford outfit.
The Red Devils will start their Premier League campaign with a clash against Leicester City.
