Sid Lowe was surprised that Antoine Griezmann gave up on a move to Manchester United so willingly this summer
Sid Lowe has admitted that he is surprised Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann didn’t force through a move to Manchester United in the summer.
The France international has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United over the past season after the striker impressed at the European championship in 2016.
Griezmann was touted as the ideal target to bolster Jose Mourinho’s attacking options at Old Trafford after the Red Devils drew a staggering 15 stalemates in the 2016-17 Premier League season.
The 26-year-old was teasing Manchester United supporters with his cryptic updates throughout May before Griezmann committed his future to los Rojiblancos last week.
The Guardian’s La Liga writer Lowe expressed his surprise that Griezmann so willingly committed his future to Atletico despite the chance to move to Manchester United.
Lowe told ESPN FC: “I’m surprised that he didn’t push it through.”
Manchester United were 2-0 winners against Eredivisie giants Ajax in the Europa League final in Stockholm last month to secure a place in the Champions League next season.
The Red Devils won the EFL Cup thanks to a 3-2 win against Southampton.
