Jose Mourinho has talked up the significance of Manchester United’s crunch showdown with Liverpool FC in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils warmed up for their showdown against their bitter local rivals by claiming a thrilling 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night after finding themselves 2-0 down.
Liverpool FC, meanwhile, managed to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League by beating FC Porto 5-0 on aggregate on Tuesday night.
Manchester United are currently in second place in the Premier League table and two points ahead of Liverpool FC heading into Saturday’s showdown at Old Trafford.
And Red Devils boss Mourinho has talked up the significance of Saturday’s showdown between the two bitter rivals this weekend.
Speaking to MUTV, Mourinho said: “It is a big game against Liverpool.
“I think we both want to finish in the top four, but we both want to finish second so, yes, it is a big game.
“Then we have Sevilla in the Champions League knockout and Brighton in the FA Cup knockout, so three big matches at Old Trafford.”
Manchester United are aiming to finish in second place in the Premier League this season as they bid to end up in the top four after finishing in sixth place last term.
Liverpool FC, meanwhile, are bidding to at least better their fourth-placed finish under Jurgen Klopp in the Premier League from last season.
The Reds are yet to win a trophy since Klopp’s appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor back in October 2015.
