Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he is worried that Liverpool FC will finish above Manchester United in the Premier League table this season.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth spot last term but there is an air of positivity around the Anfield club after they brought in four new players in the transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to steer his side to a genuine Premier League title challenge next season after they reached the Champions League final and finished fourth last term.
Manchester United, meanwhile, will also be hoping to be one of the main contenders for the title, with the Red Devils having ended up in second place and without a trophy last season.
The Old Trafford outfit have not won the Premier League since 2013 and Mourinho has been tasked with delivering some silverware this season.
However, defending champions Manchester City are likely to be a force to be reckoned with once again, and former Manchester United defender Ferdinand feels that the Red Devils are some way behind Liverpool FC and the Citizens ahead of the new campaign.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Ferdinand said: “I’m a United fan, and I want to see them win the title, but I fear it’s going to be very difficult for that to happen this season.
“I can’t see past City and Liverpool as the top two — and to say that about the two clubs who wouldn’t be top of any United fan’s Christmas card list is horrendous.”
Manchester United will kick off the new Premier League season when they take on Leicester City at Old Trafford on Friday night.
